The Nottinghamshire County Council election is being postponed in an area of Mansfield after the death of a candidate. Mansfield District Council has confirmed that Karen Seymour, who was standing in Mansfield North for the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC), has died at the age of 60.
Karen had stood for the TUSC in numerous Mansfield and Nottinghamshire elections, including in the race to be Mansfield MP last year. News of Karen's death was confirmed on Friday (April 25) and it means the election of county councillors for the Mansfield North division will not take place on May 1 as planned.
All other seats for the Nottinghamshire County Council election will still carry on with their elections, meaning 64 out of 66 seats will be contested. The Mansfield North division is represented by two councillors, with the two candidates getting the most votes being sent to County Hall.
